When I first started teaching, I was at a franchise that used workout mixes. It was fine, but I found myself bored with the same thing every time, so I would often pick from the small selection of themed playlists, like the disco mix, or 80s or movie soundtrack playlists. 

 

That's when I felt the most inspired, and when I had the most fun.

 

When I started teaching my own classes with my own playlists, I leaned into this creativity, this musicality, and developed a unique style.

 

I thought about all the times in my life that I'd made playlists to get me through the hardest parts, whether it was going for a run I didn't want to do, or burning a CD of the saddest songs in the world to listen to in my car while crying to process a painful breakup. 

Then I thought about all the different kinds of classes I'd taken in my life, and the things I liked best.

 

I knew that if music motivated me, there HAD to be other people who felt this way too. 

So I leaned into my style. I used music I liked, from every genre, from every decade. I added more and more musicality, and became more intentional in combining the movements with the music. ​

The more creative I got, the more ideas I had.

HI, I'M ERIKA!

I took lots of dance classes.

 

I started taking an adult gymnastics class and learned to do a back flip when I was 30 years old.

 

I took aerial hoop and silks, and I joined a synchronized swimming class even though my swimming competence level is barely above not drowning.

 

I changed my relationship with fitness and movement by making it fun, and that is the energy I bring to every single one of my classes.

 

Movement can and should be joyful, so I keep my classes enjoyable, fun, and even silly.​

I'm a barre instructor with certifications from The London Method and IBBFA with an extensive background in classical ballet. 

Several years ago I wanted to get into a workout routine, but I HATE WORKING OUT. I loathe it, actually! So I decided that I would take group fitness classes that were fun & exciting to trick myself into enjoying it.​​

I created this course to help other instructors find their style, their personality, and elevate their classes.
