1. You don't care about being welcoming.
2. No one has ever struggled in your class.
3. Diet and fitness culture have never bothered you.

You think this isn't for you because...
You already offer modifications in your instruction.
This is a great start! In this course, you'll learn how to refine your language in how you offer modifications so that your students feel empowered and encouraged to try them, without feeling discouraged that they can't do the exercise as prescribed.
Your classes are already suitable for any fitness level.
Another great place to start! You'll get all the tools you need to go through your class one exercise, one stretch, one pose at a time to take a critical look at where you can add new options, props and mobility aids to continue your growth as the conscientious instructor you already are!
You have never felt hurt or excluded in a fitness space.
A truly incredible feat! But what about others? So many kinds of folks are excluded by the fitness world before they even make it to a class or a gym. Fat folks, BIPOC individuals, people with disabilities and invisible illnesses are often marginalized and face so many more barriers to entry than able-bodied, thin folks. We'll go over all kinds of examples of how to eliminate these barriers, use inclusive language, and make sure that ALL kinds of folks don't experience these feelings of hurt or exclusion, either!
You're already certified in a method of instruction.
Then you already have the technical expertise and knowledge of your exercises to take your instruction to the next level! Sensitivity and inclusivity training can be applied to ANY fitness class format, method, training, or practice. Minor adjustments can have a major impact, and this course will help you grow from a great instructor to an incredible one.
You don't have the time for another certification course.
Good news! This course is under 2 hours from start to finish. Not only that, it's presented in a series of short, one to five minute video presentations so that you can take in as much or as little as you have time for. It is self paced and there is no time limit - you'll have lifetime access, so you can take as long as you need, and reference it as often as you need!

I am here to give you the building blocks and the tools to make all of this easy, attainable, and accessible, WITHOUT a guilt trip.
How to start simple, and how work with your existing class exercises and movements to incorporate inclusive language in a natural, fun way.
How to make it easy for yourself so that you can get rave reviews, every single time.

When I first started teaching, I was at a franchise that claimed to be suitable for all abilities and accommodate all body sizes, fitness levels, and ages. But the longer I was there, the more I noticed that most of the regular class participants fit the same description: thin, able-bodied, and already relatively strong.
I realized that my idea of inclusivity wasn't all that inclusive, and that advertising it as suitable for all levels might actually be harmful or misleading.
When I started teaching my own classes, I spent a lot of time working through the movements I was teaching, and asking for feedback on them from folks with different bodies and different backgrounds than me. I took a close look at the language I was using both in and out of the classroom, and found a lot of it needed updating if I was really going to be inclusive for all individuals.
I thought about all the times in my life that I'd felt uncomfortable in a gym or in a class, and why. All the times I'd heard instructors motivate with body related goals, or made me feel inadequate because I couldn't do an exercise, or because I chose not to.
The more I reflected on these experiences, the madder I got. And these instructors didn't intend to hurt me, or anyone else - they simply hadn't been given the tools or the training to know that there was a problem at all!
I knew that if I had experienced exclusion and harm, as a white, able-bodied, already "fit," thin person, that could only be the tip of the iceberg. What about everyone ELSE??
So....
I decided to DO something about it.
Think about the best fitness or movement classes
you've ever taken.
Maybe it's a combination of things.
One had a really genuine and relatable instructor.
One had a class flow that just felt right.
One instructor described each movement so perfectly that you finally understood how to access your transverse abs.
And one made you feel super strong and bad ass because you could do every single exercise without modifying anything.
Imagine that's YOUR class.
THIS CAN BE YOU!
In this course, I coach you using what I have learned to change your vocabulary, your classes, and your mindset!
Embracing inclusivity is a lifelong journey, and I am here to guide you on the first steps.
You will use your existing knowledge and expertise to pair with the tools & foundation I give you to help you continue on your own and become a welcoming, inclusive, empathetic, genuine, and kind instructor.

HI, I'M ERIKA!

After years of failing to find motivation at the gym, I decided to get serious about moving my body to maintain strength and mobility as I got older. I made a pact with myself to trick myself into working out by only doing things that were fun.
I started taking an adult gymnastics class and learned to do a back flip when I was 30 years old.
I took aerial hoop and silks, and I joined a synchronized swimming class even though my swimming competence level is barely above not drowning.
I learned how to set goals that weren't related to appearance or weight, and reprogrammed the way I thought about myself and my body.
I changed my relationship with fitness and movement by making it fun.
When I decided to become an instructor, my goal was to make people's lives just a little bit better, one class at a time.
I spent time learning how to unlearn all the toxic fitness rhetoric and diet culture that had been so deeply ingrained in me since childhood, and I worked tirelessly to remove those things from not only my classes, but from my personal life as well.
And now, I want to help others do the same.

I'm a barre instructor with certifications from The London Method and IBBFA with an extensive background in classical ballet.
I ended up quitting ballet just before the end of high school. I was tired of hearing that my body wasn't right. My teachers said I was too short, my boobs were too big, my body was WRONG.
Being criticized for my body took away all the joy I had once found in dance.
